Liberty will implement the standards of the UN Convention to serve the persons with disabilities

JSC Liberty Bank and the non-governmental organization Partnership for Human Rights announced the introduction of the standard in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and presented the accessibility assessment report to the public.

At the initiative of the new team of Liberty, an audit was conducted by the NGO Partnership for Human Rights to improve access to banking products for people with disabilities, and a document on accessibility assessment was developed.

It was the first case of using the international methodology of valuation in the private sector and commercial banks. Therefore, Liberty invited experts, civil society, and people with disabilities to manage the process. The group of experts was guided by several similar methodologies and through the synthesis of analogies a thorough account was created, which will contribute to the improved services of persons with disabilities in the bank. Based on the evaluation document, the Work Plan of Liberty will be created that will make banking services accessible to persons with disabilities, and the service standards will be fully in compliance with the standards of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

“The efforts of our team are focused on the transformation of Liberty, the introduction of innovative banking products, and improvement of service. The strategy - New Liberty for a New Life of Liberty envisions caring for people. Our vision is to improve the lives of people and their families in Georgia and offer them simple and accessible banking products and services.

Liberty is the third largest system bank with the widest network. We have been serving people with disabilities and their families for many years now. In the process of transformation, it is important for us to create an adapted environment and offer services and products tailored to their needs. I am glad that experienced experts and people with disabilities are involved in this process who will help us to properly manage the processes and create an action plan” - Tea Leshkasheli Deputy CEO, Operational Director.

“The initiative of the bank to critically evaluate its own activities in order to initiate positive change was sincere and result-oriented. This is why we happily got involved with them in this work. With this initiative, the Bank began to implement systemic changes. We are also obliged to work with all important actors. It is critically important that the private sector initiates such changes and needs to be supported to raise human rights standards. Working using the partnership approach is the shortest and most effective way to quickly address the challenges faced by people with disabilities.” - Ana Abashidze, Head of the non-governmental organization Partnership for Human Rights.
