The names of the finalists of the 2022 Millennium Innovation Award are known. The main prize of the competition - a trip to the NASA summer camp in the USA, was won by the team "LIGGA" with the project "Radiation research, monitoring, and safety system". Through the project created by the team, it is possible to control the level of radiation in rooms and buildings and determine the area of radiation spread. Members of the winning team will travel to the USA and participate in the NASA Space Center University Summer School. The competition is sponsored by the US Embassy in Georgia.

The holder of second place - "Firelink" will participate in the iD Tech camp of Stanford University in the USA with the funding of Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA).

The members of the team “Mad Scientist”, which won third place, will be sent by Liberty Bank on a study visit to the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Switzerland.

Team "Atemporal" was the favorite of the company EPAM and its members will attend the EPAM Garage technology camp in Poland.

"With the help of loyal partners and new supporters of the competition, this year, four different teams were awarded participation in international science camps. The teams will attend the best STEM programs in the USA and Europe. We are very grateful to our partners and we hope that this will further increase the interest of the younger generation in science, engineering, and technology STEM fields.”- said Magda Maghradze, the CEO of the Millenium Foundation.

Members of the second-place team, students from Givi Zaldastanishvili School of the American Academy, created a network of low-cost stations based on microtechnology and sensors for early monitoring of forest fires.

The third-place team "Mad Scientist", consisting of students from Tbilisi and Gori schools, created the project - "Universal Friendly House". One of the team members has special educational needs. Considering his experience, the team developed a project through which the user can control any household appliances with voice commands and voice messages, both from home and remotely.

"The Millennium Innovation Award plays a major role in the advancement of the next generation. It significantly increases the motivation of hundreds of school students to strive for new discoveries. We think that the prize established by Liberty - a study tour to the European Organization for Nuclear Research for the team "Mad Scientist" will become the basis of new ideas. The promotion of education is a strategic direction for Liberty, and we will continue to care for the education of the next generation. The Millennium Innovation Award is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. "The development of innovations and technologies in Georgia brings us even closer to the modern world and helps to strengthen the new generation of inventors, engineers, and startups. One of the priorities of our government and ministry is the development of technology and natural science education" – remarked Minister of Education and Science, Mikheil Chkhenkeli at the awarding ceremony.

The Millennium Innovation Award was held for the eighth time this year, with the financial support of the US Embassy. "The US Embassy in Georgia has been supporting the Millennium Innovation Award since 2014, the goal of which is to encourage the implementation of innovative projects and ideas among young people. We are very proud of this competition and we are glad that students from both Tbilisi and regional schools take part in the competition every year.” – said the Ambassador of USA to Georgia Kelly Degnan.

In addition to the winning teams, special prizes were awarded to the teams who passed to finals by the partner organizations of the Award: Kutaisi International University, San Diego State University, Geolab, "Leterato" Academy, and company "allmarket.ge".

This year, the competition had 12 finalist teams from schools in Tbilisi, Akhaltsikhe, Kutaisi, Senaki, Batumi, and Gori, who developed projects in the fields of space and aviation, robotics, mobile technologies and applications, environmental protection, healthcare, energy, and transport. The competition aims to encourage innovation and the creation of new technologies among high school students and increase interest in science and engineering (STEM) fields. To date, more than 2,500 students have participated in the competition.
